Queering Elementary Education
Morgen on December 15, 2009
One of the many past activities that Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings has come under fire for is writing the forward to a book in 1999 that called for elementary school teachers to encourage children to explore their sexual identities and to incorporate homosexual themes and role models into their curriculum. The book was called Queering Elementary Education: Advancing the Dialogue about Sexualities and Schooling.John and I have previously covered the disturbing curriculum recommended by GLSEN, the organization founded and run by Jennings for over 15 years. And I have gone on record stating that I think an anti-bullying, anti-harassment agenda is a perfectly reasonable focus for organizations focused on gay rights. However, I have a BIG problem with any organization, or individual, which employs a strategy of deceit and subversion to advance their hidden goals.
It’s clear by now that GLSEN and Jennings fall into this category. If the fact that GLSEN’s reading list for students includes explicit gay pornography – and the “Fistgate” outrage – aren’t enough to convince you, I stumbled across a much more recent (and simpler) example of GLSEN’s subversive activities.
From a Gay-Straight Alliance summit organized and sponsored by GLSEN of Hudson Valley, NY in April of this year (click image for full size):
Using images from popular children’s media, we will transform these into a subversive coloring book, writing stories for the characters we always wanted to rebel against. Because so much of children’s media does not include Transgender, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Queer, and Feminist characters and ideas, we will deliberately work to contradict this. Don’t miss the chance to make friends, cut-n-paste with a real live glue stick, and change the direction of children’s media. No artistic experience necessary.Apparently they’ve never heard of The Ambiguously Gay Duo.
In all seriousness, GLSEN is an organization which has orchestrated the creation of 4000+ Gay-Straight Alliance organizations at schools around the country. All under the guise of helping create a safe educational environment for all students. And the founder of this organization is now in a government leadership position creating and promoting “safe schools” policy for the Department of Education.
I doubt very many Americans would be comfortable with the idea of the federal government employing subversive strategies to shift the direction of education in this country. Given Jennings past leadership role with GLSEN, and their ongoing radical education agenda for our children, I don’t think Jennings deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his current intentions and activities. The Administration could end this whole controversy by asking him to resign.
